The Team 167 website was founded in 2006 but fell into disrepair. In 2009, the team redesigned and rebuilt the site from the ground up. While the website was mostly put together by one member (tdawson, me), everyone who wanted was encouraged to help create the design. We held meetings to teach some of the basic principles of HTML and CSS.
The design and content of the website should hopefully give you a sense of our team spirit while retaining a professional feel. From the hand-drawn background pictures to all of the logos and color usage, we wanted to infuse a bit of what we feel makes Team 167 so unique.
In the spirit of collaboration and getting the whole team involved, a custom made php & MySQL system was built from scratch. Sure, I would have saved time by using WordPress, but since when was FIRST about doing things the easy way? At any rate, the system allows members to edit any of the pages or upload pictures and give them captions. Editing the site requires no HTML knowledge, as users can add formatting through the likes of underscores and ^s. Pictures can be added to a page with the click of a button. Members also have been enthusiastic about our new blog. Perhaps too enthusiastic. I take no responsibility for what they write!
The website allows previous robotics members to remain connected with the current team. We also use the website to inform the community about what is going on in robotics club. Our site has been on the home page of our school along with a video of our build season.
